Isla Mujeres is a beautiful island in the Caribbean sea, just 13 km away from Cancun. It is known for its stunningly perfect postcard picture beaches with azure waters. If you are looking for that perfect beach, then Isla Mujeres won’t disappoint you. If you are fan of turtles, you can also find a turtle farm on the island. Isla Mujeres is a very small island and the name of the island means Womens’ Island.

WHEN TO VISIT ISLA MUJERES
That depends on you, on your budget and how much heat you can take. The best time to visit Isla Mujeres is in high season which is from January to April. Most of the days are sunny with very little rain. In the months of May to September it’s raining the most. Be careful during the hurricane season which runs from June to November. But the most dangerous months are September and October.
HOW TO GET TO ISLA MUJERES
To get to Isla Mujeres is very easy. It is even easier when you stay in touristy party town Cancun. Companies such as UltraMar and Marinesa have ferry boats from Peurto Juarez, popular Cancun or even Gran Puerto. There are many party boats as well. Day trips to Isla Mujeres are very popular and I am sure you won’t have any problems getting your transportation to this paradise island. We opted for a day trip as well.
DON’T BOOK A TOUR AT YOUR HOTEL, OR AT LEAST COMPARE PRICES WITH OTHER PROVIDERS
VERY IMPORTANT: If you are in a resort, try to avoid booking tours at the resort as they are usually overpriced. We ended up booking a tour to Isla Mujeres for $50 from an independent local tourist office. Our hotel offered us a “discounted deal” for about $99, ehmm, no thank you…
We stayed in Playa del Carmen BlueBay Resort and we found this tour in one of the tourist offices in Playa del Carmen. On the next day, we were picked up at the hotel in the morning by a mini van and drove for around 2 hours to Cancun Harbour. At the harbour you will be told which catamaran or boat will take you to Isla Mujeres.
The trip started really well. The staff on the boat was very friendly and our guide created a really good atmosphere. On the way to the island is also an underwater museum with as many as 5000 sculptures.
After few (non-alcoholic) drinks, we went for snorkelling, hoping to see some cool statues and topical fish. However, the snorkelling experience wasn’t that great as we had really big waves. The water was to murky to see anything. But it was still fun. I didn’t see that much but I kept myself busy with other things 😀
After 1 hour, we arrived at this adorable little port. Isla Mujeres, is a very cute, small island and you can rent a golf cart to get around. We didn’t get a chance to it since the program didn’t really allow it time-wise. Next time, we definitely will.
THE BEST BEACH ON ISLA MUJERES
Our guide recommended us to go to the beach “Playa Norte” also known as “Playa Coco” or “Nautibeach”. We were told that it is the most beautiful beach in Mexico (maybe he even said in the world…not sure, though). So, of course we went there. And our guide was right, what a stunning place it is…
We sat under the palms and just stared…
We really loved Isla Mujeres and I highly recommend for you to visit it once you are in Mexico. I can say for sure that we will be visiting this amazing island again.
Have fun visiting Isla Mujeres.
